Stadium of America

The Stadium de América was the first stadium in Córdoba, situated within the area bounded by what are now Avenida de Medina Azahara, Avenida de América and Bulevar Hernán Ruiz, next to the AVE station. It stood on ‘land that had once been part of the Cercadilla market gardens’, behind the La Victoria barracks.

It was inaugurated on 28 May 1923, measuring 107 by 62 metres and with a capacity for 5,000 spectators. The Córdoba stadium was the scene of the rivalry between Córdoba Sporting Club and Sociedad Deportiva Electromecánica FC, two of the leading teams among the many that emerged in the decades before the founding of Córdoba CF, which succeeded in uniting this passion.

The Stadium remained in use until 1945, when it was incorporated into the Artillery barracks as a sports ground. A few months later, the Estadio del Arcángel was opened.
