Metropolitan Stadium

The Metropolitano Stadium is the home of Atlético de Madrid and one of the most modern sports venues in Europe. Opened in 2017, the stadium marked a turning point in the club’s history, as it left behind the historic Vicente Calderón to begin a new chapter in the east of the city. The Metropolitano stands on the site of the former La Peineta stadium, transformed into a state-of-the-art venue that maintains a symbolic link with Madrid’s Olympic bid.

With a capacity of nearly 70,000 spectators, the Metropolitano stands out for its functional design, excellent visibility from all seats and a particularly intense atmosphere on match days. Its lightweight, wraparound roof has become one of its most recognisable features, whilst also protecting the crowd and improving the acoustics. Since opening, it has hosted major sporting and musical events, including European finals and international competitions, establishing itself as a world-class stadium.

HOW TO GET THERE
Access to the Metropolitano is particularly well organised. By metro, the most convenient option is Line 7 (Estadio Metropolitano station), located just a few metres from the stadium. By bus, several EMT routes connect the stadium with various parts of Madrid. For those arriving from outside the capital, the road links (M-40, M-21 and A-2) make it easy to get there by private car, with ample parking areas available in the surrounding area. You can also opt for a taxi or ride-hailing service, which is particularly recommended after matches. The stadium is accessible by bicycle, with cycle lanes and parking facilities nearby, and its proximity to Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport makes it one of the best-connected stadiums for both domestic and international visitors.
