Athletic Club Museum

Inside the San Mamés stadium is the Athletic Club museum, one of the most interesting football museums in Spain. Here, visitors can explore the history of a very special club, founded in 1898 and one of the few to have always played in the Spanish top flight.

The exhibition combines trophies, historic shirts, photographs, videos and artefacts that illustrate the club’s evolution and its strong ties to Basque society. It also explains Athletic’s famous philosophy of relying on players trained locally, something unique in professional football.

Among the most notable exhibits are the Copa del Rey trophies won by the club, memorabilia from legendary players and items relating to iconic moments at both the old stadium and the current San Mamés.

The tour is quite interactive and is usually enjoyed even by those who do not normally follow Athletic, as it helps visitors understand why the club is much more than just a team to the people of Bilbao.
