Royal Palace of Madrid

The Royal Palace is the official residence of the Spanish monarchy, although it is currently used only for official functions. It is notable for its monumental architecture, its sumptuous halls and its valuable artistic heritage, which includes frescoes, tapestries, clocks and the Royal Armoury.

Trivia:

  • It is the largest royal palace in Western Europe in terms of floor area.
  • It was built on the ruins of the old Alcázar, which was destroyed by fire in 1734.
  • It houses one of the best-preserved sets of Stradivarius string quartets in the world.
