Museu Picasso Barcelona

The Museu Picasso is an essential visit for understanding Pablo Picasso’s relationship with Barcelona. The artist arrived in the city as a young man, and its artistic and bohemian atmosphere had a profound influence on his early career. Opened in 1963, the museum occupies several medieval palaces in the La Ribera district and houses more than 3,800 works, with a particular focus on Picasso’s formative years. One of its highlights is the extensive series of 58 paintings based on Velázquez’s Las Meninas, created in 1957. Rather than presenting his entire career chronologically, the collection reveals his artistic development and the lasting connection he maintained with Barcelona.
