"El Decano" (The Dean) | FNZN

On 18 December 1889, at a meeting at the Hotel Colón, the Huelva Recreation Club, the first football club in Spain, was founded in Huelva. The initiative came from the Scottish doctor William Alexander Mackay, although the first president was Charles Adam, the oldest member of the original board of directors. This formalised the great love of the sport that had taken root locally after the arrival of the Rio Tinto Company in Huelva in 1873.
