The craddle of footbal in Spain

Huelva was football’s first port of entry into Spain, arriving with the British immigrants who worked at the Rio Tinto mine in the second half of the 19th century, just as the sport was becoming popular, with its new rules, in its country of origin, the United Kingdom. Although the foundation of the Real Club Recreativo de Huelva dates back to 1889, football was played locally much earlier, going back at least to the arrival of the Rio Tinto Company Ltd. in 1873.
