Las Canteras Beach

Las Canteras is considered one of the best city beaches. The possibilities it offers, both day and night and every day of the year, are endless. Take a dip, stroll along the shore or its three-kilometre-long promenade, discover the treasures hidden beneath the waves, play sport, play in the sand, sit on a terrace to have a meal, enjoy a drink, tuck into an ice cream, watch the sunset… On match days, a lively atmosphere is guaranteed.

The beach stretches from the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium in Guanarteme – the surfing neighbourhood par excellence – to La Puntilla in the La Isleta neighbourhood. In this area, right on the promenade, stands the headquarters of the Real Club Victoria, a leading sports, cultural and recreational association. In 1949, Victoria, together with Club Deportivo Gran Canaria, Atlético Club, Arenas Club and Marino Club de Fútbol, founded Unión Deportiva Las Palmas.

Trivia:
– The calm waters are due to La Barra, a limestone reef over 100,000 years old that runs parallel to more than half the length of the beach.
– Las Canteras is a veritable natural aquarium, home to 150 species that can be seen both on the shore, on the rocks and underwater.
– The same engineers who assembled the Eiffel Tower worked on the construction of the Mercado del Puerto, a unique Modernist building made of wrought iron, situated just a stone’s throw from Las Canteras.
