Garden City

Until the Gran Canaria Stadium opened in 2003, the ground where Unión Deportiva Las Palmas played was known as ‘the Ciudad Jardín ground’, in reference to the neighbourhood where the Estadio Insular was located. Now converted into the Estadio Insular Park, it is a recreational space right in the heart of the city, featuring 6,000 square metres of lawn, a wooded area, a sports area, a children’s playground and a café. The park is open Monday to Sunday, from 07:00 to 24:00.

In Ciudad Jardín, also known as ‘the English quarter’, we can see the mark left by the British colonial presence in places such as the Anglican Church, the English Club, the former Hotel Metropol (which now houses the Municipal Offices) and the Hotel Santa Catalina. Another such legacy was, in fact, the introduction of football in the mid-19th century.

This residential neighbourhood offers places to escape the hustle and bustle, such as Doramas Park or the Pueblo Canario. Nearby is the Muelle Deportivo, a spot where you can soak up the atmosphere and enjoy views of the harbour and the bay, with a wide range of seaside dining options.
